The act of smudging has been used for thousands of years by a variety of ancient cultures to aid cleansing and blessing rituals. Today, we follow these traditional practices and use herbs such as white sage and palo santo to cleanse and bless any given space being smudged. We find that white sage is perfect for removing negative energy and unwanted influences, ultimately purifying the space, while palo santo helps to usher in good vibes and bless the space. We recommend smudging when you arrive in a new space, such as when you are moving, prior to meditating or taking a bath, at the end of a stressful day, or anytime the energy in your space feels stagnant or negative.
How to Perform the Ritual
Begin by setting an intention for smudging your space. Light the end of the White Sage or Palo Santo while holding onto the opposite end. Allow to burn for about one minute or so. Blow out the flame and move about the space in which you intend to clear the energy. Move the sacred smoke throughout your entire space, allowing it to diffuse into all corners and across all windows and doors. Once you are done, place into a fireproof bowl. The glow will extinguish itself after a few moments. Always use caution and respect when working with fire.
We also offer a smokeless alternative to this practice with our Black Tourmaline Smudge Spray, which utilizes white sage and palo santo essential oils and is infused with black tourmaline for a similar cleansing experience.
