Stockist Spotlight: Haley Solar of Haley Solar
With this fresh month upon us, I’d like to announce the start of a new feature we’ll be creating for the blog: Stockist Spotlight. As many of you know, I absolutely love my retail partners! Most of our retailers are small business owners just like me (and many of them are female too!) and nothing makes me happier than my line being a part of their larger vision. That’s why I wanted to start interviewing them in order to get to know them and their businesses better and to support them by sharing it all with you. I’m a big believer in the idea that we rise by lifting one another up so I can’t wait to turn the spotlight on these amazing entrepreneurs so you can hear their stories. And if you happen to live in the area, I highly recommend you check out their beautiful stores and shop locally!
Our first feature highlights our recent stockist Haley Solar of Haley Solar (formerly Junim LA), a light and airy boutique in the Eagle Rock neighborhood of Los Angeles featuring her own clothing designs. The incredibly talented designer is known for her signature indigo silk print, which is an artisan dying technique, replicating the gorgeous Los Angeles skyscape. From hand dyed silk t-shirt dresses to gorgeous midi skirts that give you “the feel of a nightgown” that can be worn day-to-night, Haley’s line has such an effortless throw-on-and-go vibe that still reads as luxurious, artistic, and intentional. Plus, all pieces are cut, washed, sewn and dyed in her Los Angeles studio (yay for them being made in the USA!) and utilize 90% reclaimed fabrics for her designs (yay for sustainability!). Here’s my interview with Haley:
Hi Haley! Can you tell us a little bit about yourself and your background prior to opening Haley Solar?
I am one of those lucky people who has always known what they wanted to do for a living. I started sewing at 7, making clothing for myself and costumes for school plays in high school and I started working in retail at 18. I have worked for design houses, retailers, jewelry lines for my entire career but around 2010 I was working for Anthropologie and was so inspired by the entrepreneurial spirit that that company inspired in its employees that I decide it was time to branch out on my own.
How did Haley Solar come to be?
I started the collection Junim Los Angeles 9 years ago and did the wholesale hustle for 6 years of that. I started to burn out. Trade shows, factories, shipping, sales. The whole fabulous idea of my life wasn't so fabulous. I took a season off, went camping in Alaska and tried to visualize what I wanted my life to look like. When I came home I started looking for retail spaces. Selling one dress at a time may not be lucrative, but it IS rewarding and now I can honestly say that I LOVE my job.
What inspires you?
The women who wear my clothing. I don't try to hop on trends or predict what's next, I just try my best to make clothing that's fun, flattering, wearable and versatile. In LA you have to be ready to go from the beach to dinner, from work to a night out, all with a shoe change.
How do you choose brands for your shop?
I look for brands with a similar philosophy to mine. First it has to come from a good place. Is it handmade? Organic? Chemical free? Fair Trade? Next is about the design. Is it beautiful? Is it unique? Will she treasure it? If it's a yes yes yes then it's on the shelves.
What drew you to Être Bien?
I work a lot. I find it so fulfilling in a billion ways but I tend to forget about taking care of my mind and body. Être Bien is a little drop of luxury, a reminder to chill out and enjoy where I am, reflect on my day and treat myself. Even if it's just for a minute.
Favorite Être Bien product?
The Amethyst Body Elixir. I put it on my hands and arms every night before bed. The ritual, the scent, the clinking of the little gems inside. It calms my mind and lulls me to sleep.
Why is self-care important to you?
As women, we give a lot of themselves and are so intuitive on what people around them need, yet somehow, we are the first to be neglected. Take care of yourself and you can take better care of others.
What self-care rituals do you incorporate into your own life?
Not enough. What else you got over there for me??
We’ve got tons for you, Haley! From smudging to baths to meditation, I have yet to find a self-care ritual I don’t like. I’ll share more on that later but for now, I just want to thank Haley for answering my questions and sharing her story! I encourage you to stop by her store in LA so you can check out her gorgeous clothing line (and try out some Être Bien products too) and to follow her on Instagram if you aren’t already.
Thank you so much for reading! As always, I’m super grateful when any of you share my content so feel free to spread the Être Bien love. Be sure to follow us on Instagram and Pinterest and to like us on Facebook so that you never miss out on anything high vibe self-care related!
